Extra Mile
Extra Mile
Inspiration
I wrote Extra Mile because I wanted young people who might feel frustrated to know that God has given them the power to press on. I asked myself how people in dire circumstances find that inner strength, which provided the inspiration for the lyrics.
On empty streets where the shadows breathe,
Fuel runnin’ low but I hold my belief.
America whispers, “Keep pushin’, don’t fold,”
Soul burnin’ hot, this fire stay bold.
[Chorus]
When the weight’s too heavy, and you wanna stop,
Hear a voice from the heavens tellin’ you to rock.
God in my corner, I can’t derail,
Through the storm, I stride, on the extra mile trail.
[Verse 2]
Wind in the wires hummin’ old church hymns,
Dust on my kicks but the light don’t dim.
America’s patchwork, stitched with dreams,
God’s hand guidin’ through tangled schemes.
[Bridge]
Sweat on my brow, hope in my chest,
When it gets harder, that’s when’s the test.
Pull from the roots where the ancestors climbed,
Feelin’ strength from a history divine.
[Chorus]
When the weight’s too heavy, and you wanna stop,
Hear a voice from the heavens tellin’ you to rock.
God in my corner, I can’t derail,
Through the storm, I stride, on the extra mile trail.
[Verse 3]
Got love for the grind, the fight ain’t in vain,
Tears water seeds that bloom through the pain.
America’s soil got stories in grooves,
Every step’s the proof, determined moves.
